Starbucks, Schools, and Sugar!

This week’s playlist: http://8tracks.com/arr-dee/beanie-time-music

We had an extended weekend – fall break! I had the choice of going up to Canada for the 4 days, but chose to stay on campus/in Boston instead. I took the opportunity to do some much needed laundry, vacuum the floors (which I hadn’t done since move in day…woops!), and write letters to family and friends. Since I’ve gotten to college I’ve realized how great receiving and writing letters are. Emails are quick, texts are efficient, but hand-written letters hold a warm place in my heart. I walked down to the vil, the little shopping street right off campus, and sat and wrote at Starbucks until I thought I had developed carpal tunnel. I had a lot of thoughts and feelings after a month and a half of being away from home, and it was nice to get it all out on paper.

I also visited my friends at Tufts University (which isn’t that far away, but a bit inconvenient to commute to via public transportation) and Northeastern University, and saw a lot of prospective families touring the schools while I was there. My brother, currently a senior in high school, also just sent me his application essays to edit. I can’t believe it’s been a year since I was going through that process.

Don’t worry, you might feel overwhelmed now — and  that feeling will probably only continue to get worse, but just know that in the end, it all works out. Do serious research – find out what the school has to offer you, the area the school is located in, what you can do for fun on or off campus, access to public transportation, clubs and organizations on campus, etc. As a student who lived half way across the world, I wasn’t able to visit the campuses of schools I applied to; if you have the opportunity, use it well. if you don’t, we have this amazing thing called the internet that has more information than you could ever imagine. USE YOUR RESOURCES WISELY! ASK QUESTIONS!

I finished off the weekend with friends at the Slater International House –  we ordered Thai food, watched cheesy chick-flicks and baked brownie cupcakes with mint dark chocolate m&m’s (picture below). Now, off to do some school work I’ve been putting off this entire weekend!
