Hey! We’re back in session with classes. I think there’s a general sense of enthusiasm around students that this will be our last ride with the term system. Personally, I am very excited to go back to the semester system we know and love. Yet, weirdly enough the thought of taking four courses at once (as we typically do) freaks me out now. I’ve developed a sense of familiarity and liking to taking only 2 courses at a time because it helps me really focus and engage with the material. That being said, the fast pace of the term system needs to be retired.
On this note, next year Wellesley is planning on having a normal on-campus semester. I feel like I don’t think I’ve dedicated a singular blog post strictly to the on-campus experience, so I’ll share the details now. As you’ve probably heard by now, Wellesley has one of the most BEAUTIFUL campuses (especially gorgeous on a sunny spring day). It’s by far one of the best campuses to view seasons. During the spring, all the blossomed flowers around you as you stroll to class or sit in the yard with your friends truly elevates the experience. Aside from the beautiful campus, I think an important thought on your mind as you’re deciding whether Wellesley is the school for you is: What’s the social scene like? I would say it’s what you want it to be! Being so close to so many neighboring colleges and Boston, the possibilities are endless. A lot of Wellesley students (myself included) will go to frat parties at MIT, Harvard, or Babson. That being said, there’s always a party on-campus as well. Depending on what orgs you’re in, you’ll often have mixers with other on-campus orgs or orgs from other colleges. Regardless of what college you decide to attend, my advice would be to spend the first few weeks of college getting plugged in, making friends, and learning your way around. Another note, I love Wellesley professors. The professors at Wellesley were something I had heard a bunch about before enrolling, yet I did not fully understand what people meant until I sat in class (and I believe this is common). Professors at the college are incredibly accomplished and knowledgeable in their respective field; more so, I’ve never met a professor who did not respect their students and our time. While a blessing and a curse, professors will never give busy work. They’re very thoughtful and understanding.
On campus we also have a coop run by students called Cafe Hoop. It’s such a great place to study with friends while eating nachos or quesadillas. A lot of students will study there during the weekdays and then during the weekends people will end up at Cafe Hoop after a party on campus!
While there’s so many other aspects of campus to share with you, I recommend visiting campus if you can to really understand what it’s like. I’ll dedicate another post to on campus fun soon!
Best,
Lynsey
