I spent this week having good-bye lunches, basking in the warm weather, and finishing my finals. As of Thursday, I’ve completed all the work for my bachelor’s degree. Graduation is six days away, so now is just vacation time.
My last race was on Friday. I rowed harder than I ever have, and no part of my body hurt that shouldn’t, so it was a great way to end my collegiate rowing career. I cried my first tears of graduation season when it was over. But retirement is treating me well. I look forward to the day when I can sneeze without hurting my back.
Yesterday, the senior class council organized buses to Newport and the Cape. I had a blast walking around the touristy streets of Newport, up and down the Cliff Walk, and along roads lined with mansions. I love going to new places, and the school bus ride was surprisingly pleasant. (I can’t remember the last time I rode a school bus. It felt so small!)
The full lake path is open this week, so I walked around the lake for the first time since the Hunnewells, the folks who own part of the path, closed their section my sophomore year. It was gorgeous. It’s sunny but not too hot, and everything is green.
It’s weird to be at Wellesley and have no schoolwork to do. I slept until 8 this morning, and then I just lay there and read! My hammock has been getting some good use. Maybe I’ll pick up my guitar.
I’m about to eat my last sad Sunday lunch (the dining halls serve the same thing every weekend, and it’s severely lacking in vegan options). Then I’ll bop around outside for more class council-organized events, and I’m taking a friend’s photos this evening.
Unlike my typical Sunday, today has plenty of time to breathe.
