I had a busy week! The highlights include unseasonal warmth and sunshine, two regattas in two days, and my second and final Marathon Monday.
Earlier this week, the sun came out blazing and temps hit the high 80s. Every minute I spent indoors felt like a waste. I went for a sunny bike ride, waded in the lake, and met up with one of my favorite teachers from high school. I took my dining hall food outdoors and got some sun while reading for class.
This weekend was crazy because the crew team had races both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, we went out to the Malden/Everett/Somerville area (half a mile from the Teddie Peanut Butter factory!). My boat lost to Tufts but beat Bates, and I was proud of both of our races. The next day, we drove west to Shrewsbury/Worcester, and my boat beat Bates again. I loved cheering on my teammates as they rowed past the dock and then pulling up the livestream when they got too far to see.
Today was a day off from school and crew for Marathon Monday! I grew up along the marathon course, but I never actually watched the runners until my first MarMon, in the fall of 2021. That time, I had practice at 11, so I didn’t stay super long. Today, I watched wheelchair and handcycle racers, elite runners, and some fast normal folks, then left for lunch. I was back in time to cheer on my friend’s dad, and I stayed until the masses of runners slowed to a trickle of walkers. My whole neck hurts from leaning and screaming. The best part was reading people’s names off their shirts and cheering for them individually. If I ever run the Boston Marathon—which I would love to do—I’ll make sure to identify myself as a Wellesley alum. They get the most enthusiastic cheers.
With all this chaos and fun, not much work has been done. I need to buckle down for this short week of classes. Here come the last 2.5 weeks!
