Living Portraits are in Vogue

Hi all,

I apologize for posting this on a Thursday instead of posting it yesterday… Spring break kicks off tomorrow so I have to finish up some things here before I hop on a bus to Philadelphia via New York.

One of the things I had to do yesterday was to participate in the Tau Zeta Epsilon Living Portrait event. As you might know, TZE is the Arts and Music society on campus. Living Portrait is a tradition that takes place twice a year, once each semester. This semester, our theme was “Vogue Through The Ages” and we represented Vogue covers from different decades of the 20th century (1910-1990). There was music from the different decades playing as the visitors and TZE members walked around and inspected our portrayals of the covers. We obviously played Madonna’s “Vogue” a couple of times and we accompanied the visitors as they sang the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” (even though TZE living portraits are supposed to be silent). Here are some pictures:

I’m clearly darker than Shari Belafonte (the model on the June 1986 US Vogue cover I portrayed) but I colored my eye brows to make them as thick as hers, wore an almost identical outfit and copied her smile. I got a bit tired of keeping my hand up and forcing myself to have a wide smile after a while (the event was two hours long) so my smile isn’t identical to Shari’s in this picture. But I think that we did a pretty good job overall considering the fact that we’re not actual models. What do you think?

Before the Living Portrait event, I was at MIT on Saturday night for Relay for Life. At RFL, we celebrated with and supported those who survived from cancer, raised funds for those who are still battling cancer and remembered and honored those who lost their battle to cancer. I participated in RFL in honor of my paternal grandparents whom I never got a chance to meet. RFL was as emotional as it was fun. I walked several laps with MIT friends that I had not seen in a while, exercised and danced to Zumba music with TZE girls and ate so much good food! I’m glad I participated in it this year.

Alright, this was me. I’ll try to post during spring break but I cannot guarantee anything. I do wish you all lots of luck: decisions come out on March 22!

Lori xx
