Last week, Wellesley hosted its 12th Tanner Conference. Established through the generosity of Estelle “Nicki” Newman Tanner ’57, the Tanner conference (or simply Tanner) is an opportunity to find out what Wellesley students and alumnae were up to over the summer, Spring Break or Wintersession. More importantly, (as I told the students in my FYM group) Tanner helps one start thinking about all the exciting things that one may want to do at Wellesley/as a Wellesley student. The tagline of the Tanner website is: “Celebrating the relationship between the liberal arts classroom and student participation in an increasingly diverse and interdependent world.”
I applied to present at the conference in September. My presentation at Tanner was the third and final requirement of the Albright Institute. I presented in the section Identity, Community and Global Citizenship as part of the panel Views from the Hill with two other Albright fellows, Emma and Safaya, and another Wellesley senior, Sapna. The title of my presentation was Projects, Partnerships and Pushed Boundaries: My Global Affairs Internship in Washington. I talked about my experience as an Albright Fellow and my internship at the Corporate Council on Africa in Washington DC. Sapna, Emma and Safaya talked about their internships with the U.S. Federal Government. You can read the abstract of my presentation here and here is a list of other Albright Fellows’ Tanner presentation titles.
