My Last Spring Break

Disclaimer: written prospectively but published subsequently (oops .)

I am writing this from the Marco Polo Airport in Venice, Italy. Maybe five hours ago I was in Istanbul, Turkey, and five hours from now I will be in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Spring Break is finally here.

The last two weeks were indeed tough. I finished everything that was due on time, but I did not finish everything I wanted to do. There are a few things that I was hoping to do for work before leaving that I simply did not get around to. I have this romanticized image of me sitting at a café overlooking either the Dragon Bridge or the Triple Bridge in Ljubljana Centre. The weather this year has been unseasonably cold, but in my daydream, the weather is comfortable enough to wear a dress, but not so hot that you are sweating despite not moving at all. And as I enjoy my iced coffee, which in Slovenia is coffee with ice cream rather than cold coffee on the rocks, the grant I must write comes together seamlessly.

Will this happen? I don’t know. The weather forecast claims the following week will be warmer so I might be able to make that work. Slovenia is also not on Spring Break, so I am sure my friends will be happy to take some time off entertaining me and just work on their schoolwork.

But, anyway, I’m spending Spring Break in Slovenia! Had I mentioned it before? Sometimes I forget what things I have talked about in previous blog posts. Every day for weeks I have reminded myself that it would not be too long before I could forgo my responsibilities (which doesn’t truly happen, as you probably inferred above) and travel across the world.

You might remember that I was in Slovenia almost exactly a year ago (it will be a year in a week). I enjoyed my last Spring Break immensely, and I could not wait to come back to Slovenia!
