Studying on the Road

So, studying and (semi) backpacking across Europe might not be impossible, but it’s hard. I’m constantly tired. I keep telling myself that I just have to figure out some kind of routine, but I’m always too tired or busy to actually get around to it. I’m still on time with everything, but I’m afraid that my stress about assignments will not let me enjoy the trip as much as I know I could. I need to figure it out. I also need to pick my courses for next semester, start thinking about my summer job, and so on and so forth.

A FEW DAYS LATER

I travelled from Ljubljana to Naples yesterday. A direct flight would have been short, but it ended up taking the entire day because we were travelling cheap. The travels might have been stressful, but I actually got a lot of work done. I managed to finish an essay that was really starting to drag me down, which felt incredible. Today, I finally got around to finishing this blog post. It’s been a pretty long day, though, and I might struggle to get up tomorrow. We went to Pompeii today, and then to this wonderful town in the outsides of Naples called Sorrento. In case you were wondering, I definitely got to taste some Naples pizza and Italian gelatto today. They were both wonderful.

Did you know that Naples, Italy has been on a crisis for a few years now? Most noticeable is the waste management crisis. It started a little before 2008, I believe. Most sites online say that it is mostly over. However, it was very noticeable yesterday. There were piles of rubbish even in the city centre and other such toursisty areas. It was much better today, but I don’t think any of us really expected it. Also important to note is that the city is not pedestrian friendly – at all. Crossing the streets seems like a dangerous task no matter the time, but it is significantly scarier in the middle of the night. The catcalling, which we are all told is a natural aspect of Italian culture, also gets increasingly worse as the sky darkens. None of us like it (surprise, surprise).

One of the interesting parts of this trip is the company. Two of the girls I am travelling with are friends of Allison, who is a currently a very close friend. However, although I have heard of these two girls before, I have never met them. They don’t even live very close. I am happy to say that they are both lovely. We all get along quite well, and I am not looking forward to parting ways in the near future. We have quite a few days to go, however, so I am not thinking much about that yet.

I will be travelling to Rome early in the morning. Currently, the plan is to go to Vatican City, but we managed to accidentally be in Rome right on Easter weekend, so we don’t know how well this is gonna work out. The plan is to finish my Ljubljana vlog on the way to Rome, but I can almost say I will most likely be sleeping…

I should take a shower! Until next time~
