Planning Ahead

Hello blog, and happy Wednesday!

This has been a very eventful week; it seems like something is always happening at Wellesley, and while I do love that I never have to look far to be entertained, I’m definitely looking forward to the break we’ll be getting later on this month. I think it’ll be nice to have a few days to go home, see my family, and just take a breath.

Before we get to break, however, there are still so many other things that still need to happen, starting with course registration for my sophomore spring tomorrow morning! Unfortunately, one of the classes I was planning to take for my education major filled up when the juniors registered for classes today, but I’ve decided to take this as a sign that it’s time to complete my lab requirement and I will be vying for a spot in Environmental Horticulture. I’m actually feeling really good about this change; I think getting the requirements I don’t want to do out of the way so I can spend my next two years taking the classes in both of my majors that I’ll find interesting and fulfilling.

In other news, I am currently working on my residential programming for this month. Each month, one of the RAs takes the lead for planning the All-Hall, and November is my month for this semester! I spent this afternoon locating a pheasant to roast for the all-hall, Cooking, Culture, and Community: A Meal in Celebration of Native American Heritage Month. I also picked a date for my floor program today, which is going to be an Ultimate Spoons Tournament. Things are moving fast here in the res life world!

Speaking of res life, last weekend I went to my very first Wellesley Athletics event! My friend Mellany, who is the 4th and 5th floor Bates RA, is a member of the swim team, so another friend on staff and I went to her first home swim meet. I hadn’t been to a swim meet since high school, when I used to tag along with my dad- the high school principal- to different events on campus. I love the Bates RA team, and I love how much we support each other. This weekend Abby, our first floor RA, is starring in Almost, Maine at Babson, and I can’t wait; she has described the show as being about “love, Maine, and the Northern Lights”, which all sound like very good things to me.

Last week we picked Christmas music for the carillon, and I called dibs on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “O Holy Night”; they’re both a little challenging, but being able to play Christmas music on the big bells is the whole reason I joined the Guild of Carillonneurs, so I’m willing to put in the work. This Friday I’ll be playing my weekly concert, but neither piece will be making an appearance, as they’re both too new. Instead, I’m taking “Second Star to the Right” and “A Whole New World” up- with pedals!– for a full Disney-themed concert.

The weather has been getting colder up here, and I for one cannot wait until the snow starts falling! Have any of you seen the first snowfall where you live yet?

Sending you joy,

Andrew
