Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Hello blog, and happy Monday!

Wellesley is looking a little different today than it was last time I wrote: this weekend New England was hit by a blizzard and we got what I read was maybe sixteen inches of snow. Being from Iowa, this was much less of a big deal to me than it was to a lot of my classmates. I stayed boarded up in Bates for most of the weekend, but I did manage to make it out for a walk in the snow on Sunday.

My friend Emma and I have been getting really into personality types lately. Last week we were looking at the Enneagram, and during the snowstorm we decided to look at our MBTI profiles– I’m a 2w1 and an INFJ for anyone wondering. I learned in my high school psych class not to put too much stock into these kinds of personality tests, but even if they don’t mean anything I think they’re really fun as long as you don’t take them too seriously. It can be really fun to google which characters are the same type as you, and I found it very validating to realize that I shared a type with a lot of my favorites.

Today was the first day of in-person classes at Wellesley, and I’ve been psyching myself out for my French class pretty much sense the first virtual session. It turns out all of my fears are pretty much completely unfounded, and this semester is going to be the same as the last. I find consistency very reassuring.

I had a whole list of things I was supposed to do before class this morning and I didn’t really end up accomplishing any of them, but I have hopes for my productivity moving forward this week. I really have to find time to do my laundry tomorrow, though; I think I’m running out of socks.

Tomorrow morning I have TWO in-person classes, one of which is in the newly renovated science center. If I can find my way around that building before the end of the ten minute passing period, it’s going to be a MIRACLE. Finding that classroom was unfortunately one of the neglected items on today’s to-do list.

I knit a second hat last week, a green one this time! I also finished the back of the sweater I’m knitting for myself and I’ve returned to working on my brother’s sweater. I think it’s possible that I could finish it before his birthday on February 20th, but I think I’m probably going to wait to get it to him until I’m back in Iowa for spring break. I’ll also have the cardigan I’m making for my little sister done by then, so I’ll have to pack light if I want to fit them both into my backpack.

Hopefully this time next week I’ll be writing all about how I’ve gotten so organized and on top of things and I’ve remembered to trim the sides of my hair and do my laundry and clean my room and eat lunch at a regular time instead of making an egg salad sandwich an hour before dinner because I hadn’t eaten anything yet that day but I do have realistic expectations for myself so I’m just going to hope that a couple of those things will be true by then and be okay with that for now.

Sending you joy,

Andrew
