Eric and Brian Nam Talk

This past Monday, I attended a talk at school by Eric Nam and his brother Brian! If you don’t know who Eric Nam is, he’s a Korean-American singer and television personality who’s spent a lot of time in the Korean entertainment industry. I’m a big K-pop fan and I like his songs. I was pretty surprised when I saw on Instagram that Wellesley and Boston College’s Korean Students Association were hosting him and Brian to give a talk. Their talk was about Mindset, an app they created that’s centered around mental health and wellness.

Tickets were free and they sold out pretty fast. However, my friend and I were somehow able to snag some tickets last minute. The talk was in the Alumnae Ballroom on campus and it was pretty packed when we arrived. There was a good mix of students from Wellesley and Boston College.

Eric and Brian’s talk was so good and they’re both very funny and relatable. Eric actually graduated from Boston College, so he told stories from when he was a student there. He told us that his brother accidentally called our school “Wesley”, so he joked that he was confused for the past week about what “Wesley College” he was going to speak at.

The main topics of their talk were stress and pressure. They talked about struggling with mental health in college and finding positive ways to deal with stress. They talked a lot about Asian-American mental health too, which I found really interesting and insightful. At the end, there was a live Q&A session where students went up to a mic to ask them questions and there were so many thoughtful ones.

Overall, the talk was really entertaining and thought provoking. I’m so glad Wellesley KSA hosted them and I can’t wait to see what other speakers will come in the future. I know that Schuyler Bailar, the first openly trans NCAA DI athlete, also spoke here this week, which is really cool. As for my spring semester goals, I am happy to update that I have been going to bed a bit earlier and I exercised at the fitness center last week!

Thanks for reading and I’ll include photos from this week.
