Sledding and Baba Marta

Hi everyone!

I hope you are doing great! Life at Wellesley in the past week has been really fun. We (finally!) had enough snow to go sledding. I don’t know if you know this, but sledding down Sev Hill is a tradition at Wellesley, and most people do it throughout their time here. Having experience with snow, I didn’t think playing in the snow here would be so fun. But it really is! Everyone was excited to be outside and go down the big hill. Of course, very few people have actual sleds, so we were using all sorts of things – Amazon boxes, plastic wrappers, trays, etc.

Also, because of the snow we had a half snow day, which sounds weird (and it was!), but it simply means that some of our morning classes were canceled because of the weather, but we still had our afternoon ones. Honestly, I just enjoyed the opportunity to sleep in during a day when I would normally have to wake up really early.

I am writing this on March 1st, which I am mentioning as today is a big holiday back home in Bulgaria. It’s Baba Marta (Grandma March)! I really love this holiday – it’s meant to celebrate the upcoming spring and mark the end of winter. We usually gift each other accessories called martenitsi that have white and red on them, such as this one:

Usually, bracelets are more popular (I’m wearing two right now!), but I brought those clips for my friends as I think they are really cute and are not as restrictive as the bracelets. Also, this is one of my favorite holidays because my mom makes all those martenitsi that I have herself. This means that she made me bring a lot of them when I was coming back to Wellesley after the winter break in January.

Anyways, academically this week is hard as I have 3 midterms, and I have been spending a lot of time studying. But your social life is also important, so don’t spend your whole time in college studying! Have some fun!

That’s it from me for the week. Stay safe!
