Hello Blog,
Happy Spring Break! I am preemptively writing this as a way to manifest that I finish the monster of a problem set that I’m currently working on for physical chemistry. For most of the people in the course, we all took calculus virtually in high school during COVID, so we’re reaching pretty far back in our foundational math knowledge. Luckily, my professor offers so many office hours a week (every single day) and really supports us through our struggles! That’s one thing about the chemistry department – I’ve never met people who are more excited about the content they’re teaching. For a subject that’s usually regarded as pretty serious and difficult, you wouldn’t be able to tell the way professors will be almost jumping for joy while lecturing. It really makes those early morning classes much more enjoyable.
Last weekend was pretty packed for me! On Saturday, I threw a party for the Guild of Carillonneurs as the events chair. It consisted of a scavenger hunt with elaborate clues written by ChatGPT (I got this idea from the Whiptails, the intramural ultimate frisbee team at Wellesley), and it was a big hit! Because we’re nerds, one of the clues was a custom New York Times “Connections” game (that one I actually came up with myself). Last year, the events chair made a Guild-specific crossword puzzle with clues personalized to each member of the Guild. It was really sweet because we had to work together and learned a lot about our individual interests! I had my non-Guild friends (so as not to ruin the surprise) help me with the planning and writing of clues, and we had a lot of fun with it.
On Sunday, there was the spring recital for my advanced performance seminar. My junior recital is coming up in less than a month (eek!), so this was a great opportunity to practice performing in front of an audience. There’s still a lot of work to do, but I’m feeling better about my pieces! I’m also going to be playing a piece in my friend Sydney’s recital on the carillon, and Sydney is the pianist in my chamber group, which will also be performing in my recital, so April is going to be a busy month for us! In fact, both of our concerts fall on the weekend of Wellesley’s “Renewing Democracy” summit, so maybe we can convince some big names to attend (or they will at least hear the bells as they are driving away…).
Until next time,
