Hello Blog,
In a weird way, this feels like one of my first normal weeks back on campus. The 1st week of classes is always an adjustment, my 2nd week I was grinding out summer internship applications, my 3rd week I was preparing for my conference, my 4th week I was at the conference, and my 5th week (last week) I spent catching up on the work I’d missed. But I’m back!!! I had two take-home exams to take last weekend, but now classes are pretty chill until spring break.
One of the big things I’m working towards this semester is my junior recital at the beginning of April. Everything is really coming together as we get to about a month out! I’ll be performing my entire piece in class next Wednesday for the first time (I’ve been performing individual movements previously) and at a concert at a church in Wellesley in mid-March. My chamber music group is also working on the middle two movements of our piece, and we might move on to the last movement if there’s time. If it’s not ready by April, we’ll perform at a Chamber Music Society concert near the end of the semester. It’s going to be a big spring of performances for me!
I’ve also been enjoying getting back into social life at Wellesley after being off campus for a bit! Last weekend was the Cari-Radio Open Tower where the Guild of Carillonneurs played pop music for the campus (please see cover photo of my friends decorating the tower). This was an especially fun open tower because we had a Valentine’s Day fundraiser where people could order custom compositions. New additions to the guild repertoire include Bags by Clairo, True Blue by Boygenius, Work Song by Hozier, and Lovesick by Laufey among others. What a time to be on the Wellesley College campus! I’ll be hosting a PowerPoint night for the guild where we’re going to eat dinner together and welcome the apprentices (new members)! It should be fun — I think I’m going to do a deep dive into the PBS show Fetch with Ruff Ruffman.
I’ll also be getting into the city this weekend! On Saturday, my friend Anna and I are going to pick my friend Anabelle up from the jewelry store she works at in the city, get dinner, and see a comedy musical. We found out there’s this pretty well-known theater company in Cambridge, and my friend got press passes to review it for the Wellesley News. Our bus takes us directly to Cambridge, and there’s a lot of affordable food for college students in the area, so it’s a perfect weekend trip! Then on Sunday, my friends Sydney, Becky, and Emily will be coming to my home and folding dumplings and hanging out with my little brother and mom. I’m really looking forward to it!
Until next time,
