Hello Blog,
We’re having an especially short week here at Wellesley College because we’re coming off of Fall Break (a four day weekend). I had a pretty chill Fall Break myself, but I thought I’d do a recap here.
On Friday, I went to the Boston Ballet with my friend (and former roommate) Anabelle. For her birthday, I got us ballet subscriptions because I love live music and she loves ballet – this was our first show of the season (and the second day of the ballet’s season). There are really great student discounts for the Boston Ballet, so definitely keep that in mind for places to try out when you’re in college! I was especially excited because one of the performances was to the Bach cello suites. We drove to the Riverside train station in Newton (~15 min from campus) and took the green line into the city. After the performance (2.5 hours!), we went to a restaurant in Chinatown and got dumplings because we were very hungry. 🙂
On Saturday, I woke up early because I had to start an experiment for my research lab. I was in the science center by 8:30am, and I finished my work before I had to get to the Office of Admission to lead a tour. After work, I ate some lunch and did some homework to prepare some questions for office hours (yep, you heard that right, my professor offers weekend office hours). That evening, my friends and I had a chill Halloween-themed movie night. We got takeout Thai food and searched 2 grocery stores for the Pillsbury ready-bake sugar cookies. Unfortunately, it seems we missed Halloween season, because the only cookies available were turkeys and elf hats. We cut our losses and ate our turkey cookies while watching the Witches of Eastwick.
I spent Sunday and Monday at home with my family. I’ve really grown to appreciate going to college so close to home. I think I was a bit afraid initially that I wouldn’t have any independence, but it’s been really nice these past few years. This time, I ate good food, did laundry, finished a lot of homework, and spent time with my family. My brother and I are very competitive, so we play lots of card games when I come home.
On Tuesday, I was back on campus to finish my experiment and analyze the data. I also met with a research librarian to ask some questions for my upcoming religion paper. Plus, (surprise!) I went to office hours to ask questions about a problem set that’s due soon. I ended the evening with “Rind and Rennet Juice: A Pride and Prejudice (2005) Viewing + Cheese Eating Event” with the Guild of Carillonneurs. We also made cute door tags that we can pin to our dorm room doors, which is common for a lot of orgs on campus. I’m the events chair this year, so this was my first official event of the semester!
Until next time,
