My Fall Traditions :)

Hello Blog!

Yesterday was one of my favorite traditions at Wellesley – Lake Day! On one day in the fall semester, while the weather is still pretty warm, the college president will send out a surprise email saying that it is simply too beautiful outside and all classes are canceled. The Schneider Board of Governors (SBOG), our student-run campus-wise activities org, plans festivities and everyone gets to take the day off. There was free food, bouncy castles, carnival games and rides, and lots of fun prizes. I also got my flu shot – what’s more fun than that?

Some fall semester traditions are Wellesley-specific, but some are also my own. This past week I went to see Sammy Rae and the Friends perform in Boston with my friends. They are a band that I first started listening to in my first year at Wellesley when my friends and I decided to buy tickets to see them on a whim. Now, every year, we see them when they go on tour in the Fall – this was my third time seeing them live! This particular concert is on the anniversary of when I met some of my closest friends last year, so we all went together, and it was really special! It was also my friend Emily’s 22nd birthday, and the band sang the iconic September by Earth, Wind & Fire (the concert was on September 21st). I had never been to a live concert before I came to college, but now it’s one of my favorite activities to do with my friends. Most artists stop in Boston when they tour, and all the typical venues are super accessible via the Wellesley bus or public transportation.

On the topic of concerts, I also saw Hozier this weekend. This was perhaps the greatest concert of my life. The tickets to his Boston shows sold out before I was able to get tickets, so a few of my friends and I drove up to New Hampshire. Our seats were all the way in the back, but it was still one of the best live performances I’ve ever been to. Hozier even randomly showed up at the  Boygenius show in Boston the next day!

Finally, a new tradition I’m hoping to establish is (please stay with me) football. I will be the last person to claim that I’m a sports person, but I’ve been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls lately, and I think it really fits the fall aesthetic. My friend dragged me to the Harvard football game last Friday (like I said, not a sports person), and it was surprisingly super fun! I think there’s perhaps nothing more fall and collegiate than eating a hot dog in the stands of a stadium in a cozy sweater and half paying attention to a sports game. I went to a Red Sox game around this time last year, so I think this could be a new tradition. Maybe I’ll even learn the rules!

Until next time,
