Spring Break Recap

Hello blog,

Long time no talk! I’m back from spring break and ready to take on the final six weeks of the semester. I had one of my best spring breaks yet! Usually, I just take some time off to relax at home with my family before coming back to campus. This time, though, I did that for the first half and then headed to NYC!

My friend was going to be in NYC to do some archival research in preparation for her thesis next year, so my other friend and I got to tag along! One thing about me is I love a walkable city. I’m not sure I could live in NYC full-time at this point in my life, but it’s a great place to go for a short trip. We mostly stayed in Manhattan, but we also spent a day in Brooklyn. I am definitely still a tourist, but last summer, I crashed in the city with my friend for a few weeks after my research program, so I feel like I’m slowly getting the hang of it!

Another thing about me is that I love the Northeast Regional Amtrak! The easiest transportation to NYC from Wellesley for me is to take the commuter rail (in the Ville about a 10–15 minute walk from campus) into Back Bay or South Station and then take the Amtrak to Penn Station in NYC (around 4 hours). This was my 4th time making this commute, and I honestly find it really enjoyable! The seats are surprisingly big, and the windows are optimal for staring out of with dramatic music playing in your ears. Also, if you purchase your tickets in advance like me, it ends up being about $30–60 round trip. 🙂

Spring break was restful and fun, but I have a pretty gnarly weekend coming up — two take-home tests. I’ve done it before, though, so I have faith that I’ll be able to do it again. Wellesley’s Honor Code makes it such that many classes can offer take-home exams throughout the semester, and almost all of my finals are self-scheduled. This means you can take the exam when it makes the most sense for you, and professors trust that you won’t talk to others or consult prohibited resources. This has been really great for me because although I like having morning classes, I prefer to take exams after my brain has had a few hours to warm up. I will report back once those exams are successfully turned in!

Until next time,

As an original tart frozen yogurt enthusiast, I feel like I can confidently say the best frozen yogurt I’ve had is from Zabar’s in NYC. Spring break means frozen yogurt for breakfast is a valid choice.
