When I’m back in Chicago, I feel it…

Happy almost April! I’m back at Wellesley after our spring break. I did not go to glamorous Miami or Cancun, but instead headed back home to Chicago; it’s basically the same thing as Miami or Cancun.

Back at home, I first did a lot of shopping at malls and downtown Chicago with my family. I am doing a Wellesley-funded internship this summer and desperately need professional clothing and shoes for that. After trying on countless blazers, blouses, and cardigans, I now have a mini business casual wardrobe. I plan to write some later posts about both my internship and my personal thoughts about needing professional clothes in college!

I also saw some of my best friends from home. I have noticed that Wellesley’s spring break is typically a little later than other colleges, so I am glad I was able to see them. We went to the city to have fun and went to local cafes to work together; it was fun to catch up and see the separate things we were working on.

On the weekends, my family and I went to a nature reserve in the suburbs and hiked around. Do not let the sunshine in the photo below fool you, it was 40 degrees and windy. Afterwards, we also went to a strip mall. As someone who has mostly lived near major cities, I love a good suburban strip mall every once in a while—the European mind cannot comprehend having every fast food restaurant or TJ Maxx/Ross/Bloomingdale’s variant all in one plaza.

Jokes aside, I have become truly grateful this year for the invaluable opportunities to go back home during all of these school breaks. I know that there are many students who cannot do the same, so I am especially grateful for that this year. Wellesley students who cannot go back home for breaks have found families that they will spend this time with.

If you are in the same situation as me, make sure to value quality time with your loved ones! Thank you for reading.
