This is my last blog post of the semester! My sophomore year at Wellesley is really almost at an end. Next Wednesday is the last day of classes here. Then, reading period begins, which is our preparation period for finals. This semester, I have a final exam for my computer science class and final projects and papers for my statistics, history, and economics classes. I have realized that I prefer projects over final exams, so I am glad about this.
For my last blog post last year, I wrote about my takeaways and advice from freshman year. I would like to continue that tradition this year and impart two key pieces of Wellesley advice:
1 – A logistical piece of advice: join mailing lists!
I have learned about so many amazing events and opportunities just from the email list of student organizations! The organizations fair, where student organizations have tables and recruit students, typically happens here at Wellesley at the beginning of each semester. The fall semester orgs fair is the more important one though, in my opinion. I recommend going to orgs fair and writing your name down on the interest list or mailing list of any org that sounds even a little bit interesting to you. Regardless of whether you think you’ll be an active member, just put your name down! By just being on the email list, you can learn about the events the org is hosting and internship/job opportunities the org is promoting. This is an essential way to stay in the loop at Wellesley.
2 – More personal advice: try everything!
From my personal experience, the Wellesley environment is supportive, and I encourage people to try new things here. Try applying to every type of job, joining orgs you have never thought about before Wellesley, participating in all kinds of teams, etc. If you fail, Wellesley is the ideal environment to do so in my opinion; people will help you bounce back. Try everything you want here at Wellesley before you graduate and “enter the real world.” Before Wellesley, I never really thought about doing student radio. Now, I am part of WZLY, the radio station on campus, and I love it. In general, before Wellesley I had not thought about half of the opportunities I have received since getting here. Embrace the “try everything” attitude!
Thank you for reading this year! I greatly appreciate it, and I am excited to come back as a blogger in the fall when I am a junior 🙈
