Re: Identifying Wellesley’s Institutional Values
Date: November 26, 2018

The College’s Accreditation Steering Committee has thought deeply about all aspects of Wellesley throughout the process of drafting the self-study required for reaccreditation. The confidential self-study, which is now posted online for your review and feedback, presents a unique opportunity for us to reflect on the College and its future.

Over the 18-month course of its work, the steering committee identified a need to review, reconsider, and hone the expressed values of Wellesley College. These are the fundamental shared beliefs that guide our community as we live, learn, and work together, and they speak to the singular nature and immense potential of the College. Together with Wellesley’s mission, our values serve as guideposts for future planning and decision-making.

This fall, the steering committee will extend its work on the self-study by guiding a process to articulate our institutional values. Because community involvement is an important part of this process, the steering committee invites your input now, and will seek your feedback a little deeper into the process once preliminary work has been developed.

To kick us off, I ask you to take a few minutes to answer this question:

What aspect of Wellesley has had the most powerful effect on you?
Please submit your thoughts on this Google form, which will be open through November 30.

Later this winter, the steering committee will share its progress with the community and will seek your feedback as we consider the most fundamental and compelling aspects of Wellesley.

Wellesley’s values are woven into the very fabric of the College. I thank you in advance for your insight and help in illuminating them.
