EALC Movie Night – ‘Ash is Purest White’

Ash Is Purest White: ‘In an industrial city in China, a young dancer named Qiao falls in love with a mobster named Bin. When a fight breaks out between rival gangs, Qiao uses a gun to protect Bin and is sent to prison for five years.’

Ash Is Purest White (Chinese: 江湖儿女; ‘Sons and Daughters of Jianghu’) is a 2018 Chinese drama film directed by Jia Zhangke. It was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. The story is loosely based on the leader of a gang from Zhangke’s childhood, whom he had admired as a role model.

Korean Major/Minor meeting

The Korean Major and Minor meeting took place on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the EALC House. Korean majors/minors as well as students considering a major/minor in Korean attended the meeting and learned about summer/winter programs, internships, and study abroad opportunities. Professors and students cooked some delicious Korean food, including Kimbap, Ddeokbokki, and Kimchi Buchimgae. What a great time we had! EALC Movie Night – ‘Poetry (시)’

Poetry (시) is a 2010 South Korean drama film written and directed by Lee Chang-dong. It tells the story of a suburban woman in her 60s who begins to develop an interest in poetry while struggling with Alzheimer’s disease and her irresponsible grandson. Yoon Jeong-hee stars in the leading role, which was her first role in a film since 1994. The film was selected for the main competition at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Best Screenplay Award.
