Below are some post-graduate opportunities that have been sent to the Center for Work and Service. Different organizations, foundations and companies send this information to the CWS in hopes that Wellesley women will take advantage of these opportunities and apply. Fellowships
- Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution – Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. Fellows can earn either a master’s degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field, or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution. Fellows are chosen from countries and cultures around the globe based on their ability to have a significant, positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution during their careers. Learn more about program eligibility and deadlines. Applications will be available in early January to become a 2014 Fellow. Deadline to apply is July, 2013.
Scholarships
- The Mark Twain Awards for Travel support deserving students who wish to enrich their education through exposure to people and places they would otherwise not encounter. Once awarded, the funds are unrestricted and can be used towards any local or international travel of any duration. Awards range between $500-$2,500. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submissions are strongly encouraged. Eligibility: Any currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in any major; a graduate student in a masters, doctoral, or professional degree program; a recent college graduate who completed coursework less than 2 years ago. You will be asked to submit a brief 250 word statement and some additional information. Finalists will be invited to share further details about their plans. Decisions will be made by the selection committee on a rolling basis throughout the 2012-2013 academic year.
- Point Foundation, established in 2001, was initially funded by a grant from Bruce C. Lindstrom & Carl T. Strickland. Point Foundation is what it is today—the premier national LGBTQ non-profit organization designed to nurture the LGBTQ leaders of the next generation – because of the generous support of others. Point Foundation empowers promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society. By identifying and supporting these scholars, Point hopes to provide a greater level of acceptance and respect within future generations for all persons, regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression, or gender identity. We honor our scholars – their leadership, their acumen, their early involvement in LGBTQ causes, and their pledge to make the world a fairer and better place for all. Deadline to apply is January 14, 2013.
- Pride Foundation provides post-secondary educational scholarships to current and future leaders in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and straight ally community from or studying in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Pride Foundation also recognizes students who may not identify as LGBTQ, but who have contributed to the LGBTQ community. These may be the children of LGBTQ parents, or just friends of our community whose leadership skills that have demonstrated leadership in advancing LGBTQ equality. Deadline to apply is January 31, 2013.
Other Programs
- Established by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is a free six-week summer residential program for first and second year college students interested in medicine and dentistry. This program follows up the former MMEP and SMEP programs. The program aims to assist students who represent economic, geographic, cultural, racial and ethnic diversity in their pursuit of gaining admission to both medical and dental school. In SMDEP at Columbia University, students have the opportunity to take classes in the sciences, shadow health professionals, and experience cultural activities in New York City. This is a great opportunity to become a more competitive applicant to schools of medicine or dental medicine. Make sure that you choose Columbia University as the site to which you would like to apply. Deadline to apply is March 1, 2013.

Discover your public passion, develop your intellectual capacity and leadership skills, and meet women from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds in an environment that features both academic excellence and professional development. Whether you are a graduating college senior, a professional seeking to change careers, a woman with ambitions for a master’s, law, or PhD degree, or are returning to academia after some years, the Graduate Certificate Program for Women in Politics and Public Policy may be right for you. This unique program aims to increase the number and influence of women in public leadership roles. Early application by April 1 is recommended.
