My flight from Los Angeles to Frankfurt, Germany had a carbon footprint of 2.1 metric tons. Freiburg is a city with a comprehensive electric tram public transportation system, as well as a high number of residents who bike. Cars aren’t allowed in the main area of the city, and there aren’t even roads to accommodate them in the city center. Therefore, I thought that encouraging people to use bikes even more could be a good plan, by installing bike repair stations in high-volume areas such as the bike parking lots or apartment complexes. I would also be interested in requesting an increase in “Frelo” bikes, or free rentable bikes for students; oftentimes the student apartment complexes are lacking. Additionally, supporting solar panel installation could help reduce my carbon footprint. This does get complicated due to local laws about solar panel quantities for a singular building but it would work to reduce emissions once completed.
