The root of it all

Roots have always been an enigma since I grew my first plant. I wondered how they went from thin strings to thick wood. As I imagine my feet becoming roots as deep as the tree beside me, I think about studying the interconnectedness of trees in a forest. I know my roots would touch others. This makes me realize how much all living things need community. From quick research, I learned about the Cantariera system, an interbasin transfer, formed by a series of dams (or reservoirs), tunnels, and channels, which capture and divert water from some watercourses in São Paulo. As a progressive city in energy usage, Brazil has been using hydropower plants that account for around 80% of domestic electricity generation, making the Brazilian electricity mix one of the cleanest in the world.

  1. So cool to learn about the water system and hydropower in Brazil! I wonder if you can see some of these water channels in the city?

  2. i love how you write so poetically then connect it so well with describing the systems of São Paulo!!
