Skygarden

My sit spot this week is the skygarden in my dorm. My room is on the 13th floor of a 26 floor building, and everything around feels quite industrial. Though manmade, the skygarden is a nice piece of nature to liven up the space. The skygarden, unlike any of the rest of the building, is also exposed to the elements, as there is no roof. Rain or shine, you get to experience it.

Though it isn’t fully natural, it still definitely feels influenced by Singapore. The plants are all tropical ferns and flowers that thrive in the scorching heat and always present humidity. It’s getting to be the end of winter, though for Singapore that just means an end to rain, there is no change in temperature. It’s interesting to think about how these plants have adapted to survive both frequent torrential downpours and months with only heat.

The skygarden itself is also a beautiful spot to look over the city. During sunsets it’s especially nice. Since the 70s are the lowest it’s ever going to get, it’s always a nice spot to hang out at night too. It’s super calming, and it’s a very nice place to feel connected to nature in the middle of an otherwise very constructed and manmade city.
