Living in the most bikeable city in the world…I am ashamed to admit I have not invested in that culture so far. (Fun fact: it’s actually faster to bike than use the car or bus in Copenhagen!) However, even with public transportation…Denmark is truly ahead of its time.
I just spent the past week in London and realized how comprehensive and accessible our metros and train stations are compared to those elsewhere in the world (*ahem: the london rail/tube and literally our purple line back home)
Also even if one opts for the route of cars and buses, they are often running on biofuel (throwback to my second post) or electricity! I have seen so many tesla taxis and zero-emission ubers it’s kinda insane.
And if we so desperately need to fly (like me to Heathrow) there’s also an option on Scandinavia Air to book tickets with more biofuel included. It would be the consumer’s choice to spend more on a flight tickets (which are often pretty cheap compared to the US during off season) and scale how much of the flight they would like to be sustained on biofuel! I personally love metros and trains so when it’s possible (as it is included in my DIS tuition), so I try not to fly unless necessary but here’s a couple of cool things I noticed in my time after flying to cph!
(Also would like to mention having bikes and more sustainable forms of transportation in the DIS tuition would probably encourage more students to reduce their carbon footprint!)
