There are a lot of net zero policies in England. Cities and villages have their own policies, but nationally, there are plans to ensure that the country will be net zero in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Surprisingly (to me at least), this is the same for the United States. Naturally England is a lot smaller than the United States, but I have seen a lot more coverage of climate change and initiatives to work against it here than in the States.
I have mixed feelings about these policies. I feel like I should feel a lot happier about them because it is certainly progress from where we are now, but net zero does not seem like nearly enough. Climate change is happening now, and net zero policies do not take away from all the harm that has already been done.
I think about the fact that this fellowship exists and that gives me hope. I wonder about all the fellowships and groups that did things like this before us. I have not heard of many but I am certain they existed.
The more we talk about it, and the more we show how we care through our actions, we have to believe in government policies working and thereby put pressure on our governments to increase the standards of their climate change policies.
