Hello all! After a long week of travel with my study abroad program, I am finally back in Freiburg, where I was greeted with 30 degree weather and high winds. Though we’re experiencing a slight freeze, the flowers are still blooming and seem to be making it through okay. I attached a photo from my balcony of the lake (my sit spot) underneath the gray clouds during sunset.
Looking around at Freiburg’s advertisements and media, I always notice the “European” aspect: things are less edited, seem more natural and promote organic products more than ads in the US. Most notably, organic grocery stores have a plethora of ads: you can find billboards for them at nearly every tram stop, showing produce photos which are highly saturated to look more appealing. Another climate related media depiction is the constant environmental protests in Freiburg. Approximately 3 days a week, masses gather in the city center outside the city theatre (which performs traditional shows, not climate-related productions) to protest against climate change and spur action. I would say that the environmental depictions are widespread though they aren’t connected by a common theme; it’s hard to be unaware of environmental occurrences in Freiburg.
