Clementine Starck – Introduction

はじめまして (Hajimemashite・It’s nice to meet you)!

My name is Clementine — 日本語で、みかん — and I am a EALC/Japanese and Education Studies double major at Wellesley College, currently studying abroad at International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo, Japan! I have been in Japan since late August, and plan to return back to Wellesley just in time for my senior year to start in the fall.

So far, study abroad has been a blast! The picture above, for example, is from my travels over spring break to Hiroshima and Shikoku — where this photo was taken after my friend and I decided to take a spontaneous hike to get a good view of the famous Seto Bridge! It was an 11/10 experience. Also, my Ted Wang Internship, which I am completing at a local community center, has been a big part of why I have been enjoying life here so much! I look forward to writing more about it, completing my networking project, and wrapping things up here over the next couple months, so follow along with what I am up to on this blog, if you’d like!

As an Education Studies major, I am very interested in what “community” means to different cultures and different groups of people. Whether it is the young children I work with on a weekly basis, my Japanese pastor, or my peers at ICU, I am interested in investigating what everyone’s lived experiences of “community” within Japanese culture have been like, and hope to choose professionals and experiences who can shed more light on the topic. I am very much looking forward to sharing what I find from the interesting conversations that lie ahead, and hope you will find them interesting as well!

よろしくお願い致します (yoroshikuonegaiitashimasu・Best regards)
