It’s about that time of year where eager high school students, either prospies or future women of Wellesley come to campus to see what all the fuss is about.
I’m sure you’ve read that Wellesley boasts one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. We have five dining halls, our own beautiful lake, arboretum and museum, the campus center is swipe access only after midnight, our research librarians are basically super heroes and Wellesley is a top tier school.
I’d like to give you a little insight into what our tour guides don’t tell you. My TZE little Maggie (Here’s your shout out!) is one of our esteemed tour guides and will probably give you one of the best tours of your life. She’s a renaissance lady who rows with our crew team and stays fabulous working at the J.Crew in Copley.
What she probably won’t tell you on your tour of Wellesley is that one of our ponds has a little bench on its far side called “My Favorite Spot”. Next to this bench is a box mounted atop a post. If you are astute enough to notice and adventurous enough to open, what you’ll find are assortments of poems, sketches, botanical observations, diary entries and who knows what else.
I’ve previously written about the stress of Wellesley and the “we’ll sleep when we’re dead” mentality. I believe that the snippets from My Favorite Spot are some evidence to the contrary. Somehow we find leisure time to write poems and take in the beauty that surrounds us every day. We find time to explore the rich history and secrets that our college holds. We even begin to be a part of that history.
