Fluffy Friends!

Hello Blog!

It is officially midterms season at Wellesley! This week I have my first paper of the semester due and a big physics test, so needless to say, I’ve been spending a lot of time studying. But it’s always important to maintain a balance, so here’s a rundown of some highlights from the past week – academically and fun!

  • Dumpling night with friends: This was supposed to happen the Monday after President’s day weekend, but I got sick, so it was pushed back. Some friends and I gathered in one of the dorm kitchens and made over 50 dumplings! This was my first time actually folding dumplings, so it was definitely a learning curve, but I think I got the hang of it by the end. I love that there’s easy kitchen access in all dorms on campus because cooking with my friends is one of my favorite activities.
  • New carillon music: Sometime in my midst of studying for midterms, I started listening to carillon music as background noise, and I have a lot of new pieces I’m working on now. Something I’m especially excited about is the Gigue from the 3rd Bach solo cello suite, which is one of my favorite movements of Bach to play on the cello and should be a fun challenge to learn on the bells. We also have an arranging masterclass this Friday where I’m hoping to start arranging some of my favorite songs into something that can be played on the carillon. For our most recent open tower, CariRadio (our pop music concert), I played a past student’s arrangement of Hozier’s Shrike, which was really lovely (and I can’t wait for the new album release!!)
  • Taking apart instruments in Lab: This past weekend I came into the lab bright and early with my PI and the first year apprentice in my lab to take apart the HPLC. It had been giving us some slightly weird data, so we decided it could use a good cleaning. I watched my PI do this once before during Wintersession, so she really let me take charge of the process this time. It was fun tinker with an instrument by hand and with wrenches, and it seems to have improved the data!

And finally, I bet you are wondering about the title of this blog. If you somehow missed it in the cover photo, I have a new fluffy friend. Her name is Sachi the bull and she was generously given to me by the Office of Student Involvement (OSI). They had an event where students could basically make their own Build-A-Bear on campus, which was very widely attended. I will treasure her forever.

Until next time,
