Une Vie de Soleil

Good day everyone!

It’s been a happy week for me :). Since I am no longer babysitting (Josh and Jonathan are off to their French immersion camp!) I’ve had a few extra hours to work on MATLAB and goof off. I do so enjoy summer.

However, we need to start with last weekend! In the morning, I did my usual trip with Alice to dimsum and Haymarket (this week, we’re adding the aquarium in there as well!). We picked a good dimsum place—they had lots of desserts, and moreover Alice and I picked up pastries from the bakery when we were done. Then we headed up to Haymarket on the subway, where we met up with Sebiha, Katherine, and Audrey, for whom it was a first time shopping in the open-air market! Me and Alice breezed right through (one of the fruit vendors even recognized us), while I heard those three ended up having dinner in Boston as well. That would have been fun, but Alice, Erin, and I had to get ready for CIRQUE DU SOLEIL!

Erin drove us to Cirque du Soleil’s big top that night, where we met up with Tiffany’s family (her grandmother, her mother, her, and her two sisters—three generations of women, who hoo!) to see Totem. I know I’ve been to Cirque before—my mother has taken my family twice when we were much younger—but I definitely did not appreciate it until now. The music, the atmosphere, the closeness, the acrobatics, the costumes, the clowns, the amazing feats of strength, flexibility, and grace—the almost-perfect performance was astounding in every way. I highly recommend going to see it if it is ever in town; I loved every bit of it, and got pretty darn close to the stage for $88. By the end of the show I was bouncing along, singing to myself, while Alice and Erin teased me about not being able to sleep. Saturday was a great day, and I’m so glad I was in the position to experience it.

The rest of the week progressed as usual—working on the laptop to create my modified homes, keeping in touch with Monica through email, doing some swim lessons, exercising, and going to lunchtime lectures.  Monday we had a special field trip, going to Plum Island with Professor Rodenhouse, a bird-ecology specialist. You know those people who you’re sure that if you spend any amount of time with them, you’ll come out knowing so many little interesting facts because they have done research about everything and spout them out like a fountain?   That’s what Professor Rodenhouse was like, and I thoroughly enjoyed his commentary as we trooped through the trees on wooden boardwalks. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short by thunderstorms, but it was still a good time.

Sunday and Wednesday I had my weekly dinners with friends, for which I am grateful. It’s a lot of fun cooking and a lot of fun eating, and everyone shows up to hang out and talk, and it’s just a happy time. In a half an hour I’m meeting up with some swimming friends to make dinner, and I’m excited for that as well. Food + friends = :).

And I think that’s it that’s going on this week! My family has just told me they can’t come out for the 4th of July, which is unfortunate, but I’m going to see the Boston POPS with Alice and Erin, and my grandparents are coming in a few weeks to visit me! So it all works out in the end, and I’ll head home to Minnesota in a month anyway. Further, I’ve never seen the POPS and I’m super excited for Wednesday. I’ll keep you updated and take lots of pictures!

So best to you all, and as always please contact me with questions or comments. I’m in touch with a few Class of 2016 Wellesley students—I’d love to talk to more of you as well!

Happy Friday!

Monica
