Three Extra Hours

My writing professor cancelled our double period class on Tuesday afternoon. I was tempted to use the time to get ahead on work, but my roommate urged me to do something fun. After all, the whole afternoon had opened up. Two hours and forty minutes that would’ve gone to class were now mine to use freely.

After lunch, I stopped by my former ES professor’s office hours. One of her classes had a big assignment coming up, so I spent half an hour reading on the floor, but when everyone left I went in to chat about a summer internship I’d applied for with an environmental nonprofit. (I was reading This is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel, which I just finished and absolutely loved, so even the waiting was time well spent.)

From there, I popped into the Davis Museum. Sometimes I forget that we have an entire art museum on campus, and it’s super cool, but I hardly ever go. I tooled around a couple exhibits on the bottom floor. There’s so much to see! I don’t love spending hours at museums, and with the Davis, I don’t have to. Perusing for a bit here and there is a great way to relax.

I went to the athletic trainer to get my rehab exercises out of the way, picked up my new shoes that had come in the mail, and trekked over to the greenhouse! I’d been up there to write an article about it for work last fall, but I hadn’t yet gone for fun. Tucked away by a piano and a bunch of plants, I sat down to work through some homework.

I often wonder what I would do if I had more hours in my day. I’d probably sleep more, eat slowly, and procrastinate. On Tuesday, I got almost three extra hours, and I used them to check a couple fun things off my to-do list.
