Always Something to Celebrate

Hello blog, and happy Wednesday!

This time next week, I will be writing to you from back home in Iowa, where I’ll be spending my November break. Five days of family, food, and rest sounds like exactly what I need right now, and I cannot wait. Before I can get to that, though, there are a few other things I have to finish.

First and foremost, my schoolwork. One of my English professors is very lax with deadlines, and I have taken advantage of that way too much for my last paper; it was due last Monday and I still only have two out of four pages written. That’s something I’ll be trying to tackle this Sunday.

In the res life sphere, I have two programs coming up within the next week; I’ll be roasting a pheasant on Saturday for the Bates November All Hall, a meal and conversation in celebration of Native American Heritage Month, and then on Monday night I’ll be hosting a Spoons Tournament.

In other exciting news, this Saturday marked six months on Testosterone for me! In celebration, I spent the day at the Target in Framingham with my friend Anastasija, and then that evening I baked a cake and watched SNL with a group of friends from Bates. It was a really nice and chill way to mark the occasion.

Last weekend, my friend Abby starred in Almost, Maine at Babson, the business school in the town of Wellesley, so a couple of my friends and I went over to see her perform on Friday night. It was amazing! Getting to see Abby was definitely the best part, but I’ve also been feeling more and more in the mood for snow and winter and Christmas lately, so I loved spending the night watching a play full of snow and skating and love.

Speaking of Christmas, I’ve been working on my Christmas knitting projects a lot lately, bringing them with me to class and meetings and what not. It helps me focus to have something to do with my hands, and the extra time to work on my projects doesn’t hurt, either. I’ve also been working on my Christmas music for the carillon; hopefully I’ll bring that up to the big carillon either Friday or Sunday afternoon to play for the campus. Our Holiday Open Tower is December 5, so I really have to put in the time before I head home if I want to be ready for that.

This morning I worked my regular Wednesday shift at the computing help desk, and my friend Sophia came to visit! She spilled water on her laptop and had to check out a chromebook from us; the morning shifts at the help desk are usually pretty slow, so whenever I get to see a friendly face it’s really exciting! Sophia is also in charge of the bracket that my friends and I fill out for the Bachelorette every week; we have House Council while the episode is airing every week, so we gather in the first floor common room most Wednesday nights to watch together. Tonight two of my favorite contestants got one on one dates, so that was another thing to celebrate!

I hope you’re all finding little things to celebrate in your lives, and I hope you have your own breaks coming up soon. It’s important to take time off to focus on just having fun and being with the people who matter most to you.

Sending you joy,

Andrew
