New Years Noodle Soup

Happy Friday! This past Monday was President’s Day, so we had a long weekend. I had a good weekend that I spent being with friends and doing work.

One of my friends and I are big fans of Bollywood movies, so we spent Friday night watching this comedy heist movie, Happy New Year, in our dorm’s TV room. The TV room is cozy and we reserved our time on a spreadsheet.

On Saturday, I decided to spend the day out in Cambridge by myself. I took the school shuttle there and it was my first time back in Harvard Square this semester. Since it was a sunny Saturday, there were tons of people on the Harvard campus and the ramen restaurant I wanted to go to had a long line. So I grumbled and walked about fifteen minutes to HMart, the Asian supermarket, which is closer to MIT’s campus. I ate lunch at their food court and had to physically restrain myself from buying a bunch of snacks. I spent the rest of the afternoon just looking through stores. Then, I took the bus back to campus and spent the rest of the evening doing homework.

Sunday was a fairly hectic day: first of all, I’m happy to say that I’m interning for WZLY, the student radio station! I’m pretty excited and will update on how it goes. Sunday afternoon, I had a WZLY intern training session and I went to the radio station for the first time. It’s in the basement of Billings, one of the administrative buildings on campus.

Afterwards, I had lunch and met with my friend who’s also Tibetan to celebrate the Tibetan new year that happened last week! In our culture, we make this special noodle soup before the new year. So, my two Tibetan Wellesley friends and I tried cooking this New Year’s noodle soup ourselves. My friend and I walked to Roche Bros, a grocery store chain that’s a fifteen minute walk from campus, and we bought the ingredients for the noodle soup. That night, we made the soup in one of the dorm kitchens and it ended up being super tasty! It was really fun to make and we invited some friends to come and we all enjoyed eating it together. I had a great time and I was glad that I could partake in this tradition while being away from home.

Then I spent the rest of that night and Sunday doing laundry, homework, and writing a paper for my first year writing class. Overall, I had a great weekend. I’ll include photos from our New Years dinner and thanks for reading!
