Looking Ahead

I cannot believe the semester is almost over. We have two weeks left of classes before finals here at Wellesley! The Boston Marathon, called MarMon here, was this week, and I had a lot of fun cheering the runners on; we were blessed with super sunny weather too. Class registration is also this week, so I am preparing for that. Today, I want to talk about my plans for this summer and look to next year.

This summer, I am going to Mumbai, India to do an internship at a think tank! This internship is through Wellesley’s Career Education Center, officially called the Lulu Chow Wang ’66 Center for Career Education; they offer a wide range of internships called Signature Internships in diverse fields, including internships abroad. There are four main program areas in the Signature Internship Program, including biomedical research and Boston-based service internships. The Career Education Center also provides grants for students to independently pursue their own summer internships, a popular program called Wellesley in Washington for DC-based summer internships, and offer many, many more opportunities. Listing them all is impossible, so here is the link to some of the Wellesley funded internships.

To explain the Signature Internship application process, I applied back in the fall and had to write two short-answer questions for the Career Education Center and a cover letter for the specific organization I applied to. A month later, the Career Education Center nominated me for the position, meaning I passed the first round of applications, and they sent my cover letter to the organization. I interviewed with the organization in December and found out in January from the Career Education Center that I had a summer internship offer from the organization! The Career Education Center awards me a stipend that I use for flight tickets, housing, living expenses, etc. I am super grateful for the Career Education Center for their support and this opportunity. I went to India last summer and had an amazing time, so I am very excited to head back.

Interning in India this summer does mean that I am not going to study abroad next year, like I initially wanted to. As much as I love traveling, going abroad is costly, and I cannot go abroad this many times in such a short span of time. Deciding this was really tough, but I am still aiming to study abroad in the fall of senior year. As the semesters speed by, I am trying to make the most of my limited time here at Wellesley, so I am glad that I can do that next year.

Another big update is that I got a new job for next year: I will be an Academic Success Coach! Academic Success Coaches (ASCs) are designated students in each dorm who act as resources for other students on all matters academic—study methods, class registration, cross registration. I really look forward to this role next year.

Thanks for reading, and I will include some Marmon photos!
