A key aspect of this class’s work and assessment are individual blog postings to document your journey through the course.  This documentation serves many purposes:

  • it allows you to reflect on the work you do in the class. Sherry Swain, the chair of the National Writing Project State Networks, explains that “reflection enables us to evaluate experience, learn from mistakes, repeat successes, revise, and plan.”  She was discussing reflection in the context of writing, but it applies equally to engineering work.
  • it gives you an electronic portfolio that may prove useful in documenting your work and capabilities to future employers or graduate school admissions boards
  • it allows for your instructor and classmates to follow your progress
    • it helps you to develop the habit of documenting the work you do as you complete it, a best practice for engineers (and many other disciplines)
