Tuesday, April 22-
- Alternative Break Student Coordinator Applications Deadline | NOON | On MyCWS – Student Coordinators are vital to the success of Wellesley’s Alternative Breaks (AB) program. Coordinators will be responsible for reaching out to community partners and securing service sites for all four Alternative Breaks, as well as coordinating housing and transportation for each Break. Student Coordinators will play an integral role in creating and maintaining leadership structures for the Alternative Breaks program, in keeping with the Break Away philosophy. This is a paid position at the Center for Work and Service, reporting to the Service Program Director. The time commitment is approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year. No previous AB experience is required to become a Student Coordinator, although familiarity with community involvement and demonstrated leadership abilities are strongly preferred. - Alternative Break Site Leader Applications Deadline | NOON | On MyCWS – The success of each Alternative Break (AB) trip depends heavily upon the quality of its student leaders. In fact, strong Site Leaders ensure the success and effectiveness of the student-led program as a whole! It is the responsibility of site leaders to coordinate all on-site activities, facilitate participant training and education, and ultimately guide the group through a week of intense and rewarding service. Site Leaders will work with the Service Program director and the AB Student Coordinators. No previous AB experience is required to become a Site Leader, although familiarity with community involvement and demonstrated leadership abilities are strongly preferred. - Law School? Conversation: To Go or Not To Go? | 5:00 PM-6:00 PM | PNE 139 – A Conversation with Genevieve Painter ’00. Does law school mean you have to be a lawyer? How do you study law? What do you learn? Is law school the right choice? How do you know? JD and Ph.D? Why do such a crazy thing?!…Come find out!
Wednesday, April 23-
- Katharine Timberman Wright Award Application Deadline | NOON | On MyCWS – The Katharine Timberman Wright (KTW) Awards were established by the Wellesley College Alumnae Association to support and encourage an entrepreneurial spirit in community service. The awards recognize creative responses by Wellesley College students to perceived social needs, both on and off campus. Katharine Timberman Wright ’18 inspired these awards and exemplifies generations of Wellesley College women committed to community service. The awards are for projects that involve ten (10) or more students. The awards can be up to $750 depending on the design of the project and amount requested on the proposal. - Beha Community Engagement Grant Application Deadline | NOON | On MyCWS – Beha Community Engagement Grant provides funding to support short-term, civic-engagement, student projects. Small, one-time grants of up to $300 for individuals and up to $600 for groups are awarded to support entrepreneurial student service projects. - Cultural Rights or Gender Equality?: Indigenous Women in International Law | 12:30 PM-1:30 PM | PNE 139 – Lecture by Genevieve Painter, ’00, J.D. Ph.D. Candidate at UC Berkeley, Jurisprudence & Social Policy.
Thursday, April 24-
- MERC Education Career Fair | 9:30 AM-3:30 PM | Northeastern University – Please join us for annual MERC Education Career Fair on Thursday April 24, 2014. This fair is only targeted for students from member institutions and Wellesley is one of them. Over 104 employees and organizations will be present at the fair. Please register on MyCWS and we will email the participate package to you.
- Wellesley College/Teach For America Reception | 7:30 PM-8:30 PM | Science Center/Sage Lounge – Join us to learn about Teach for America (TFA) and to hear from Wellesley seniors who have been selected for TFA! Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP on MyCWS.
Friday, April 25-
- Janet Krevolin- Alumna in Residence-Biomedical Engineering/Healthcare | 12:30 PM-1:30 PM | Academic Council Room – The Alumna in Residence Program provides an opportunity for students to meet with distinguished alumnae from a variety of disciplines who will share their expertise and experience with students interested in learning about their fields. On April 25th, our Alumna in Residence will be: Janet Krevolin ’84, Chief Technical Officer for Bio2 Technologies. Janet is a mechanical engineer who is involved in health care (orthopedics) from a research and development perspective. During a CWS hosted luncheon, Janet will speak about her career journey since graduating from Wellesley, lessons learned, and challenges faced, while sharing some of the great work she’s done. Following the luncheon, students will have an opportunity to meet 1:1 with Janet (pre-registration required through MyCWS for both events — RSVP to each one separately).
- Knafel Reunion Conference | 1:00 PM-3:00 PM | College Club – Please join us for a buffet lunch and to hear about the exciting experiences of recent recipients of the SUSAN RAPPAPORT KNAFEL ’52 SCHOLARSHIP FOR FOREIGN STUDY and the SUSAN RAPPAPORT KNAFEL ’52 TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP.
