Project Goal:
broaden our goals to something more encapsulating of the grip aid’s entire purpose: To help people hold the oar for extended amounts of time without compromising comfort or safety.
Specifications:
Add and clarify some of the specifications
- add attribute “safety”, metric “amount of time to remove grip aid”, unit “seconds”, value “<2 seconds”
- clarify “max force applied” by changing attribute to “no breakage of contact from oar”, metric to “max force applied before grip aid is pulled off”
- add attribute of “affordability”, metric “cost”, once we have an idea of which materials we’ll be using
Finger-less Glove Feathering Grip Aid:
- it will be adjustable with velcro straps on the top of the hand
- will differ from standard model y now having holes for all fingers to go through to reduce movement
- with a thinner model it should be easier to remove in case of capsize
- there are different ways of connecting to the oar, but the way it currently is was not an issue last year therefore we’ll be focusing on the glove part
- the strap will work exactly like the standard, just the location has moved
Extended Feathering Grip Aid:
- full coverage of arm versus safety needs to be tested
- full coverage needs to be tested as to whether it is too constricting and whether that is something okay to trade off
- be sure the material won’t loosen overtime but also not cut off circulation
Full Glove Grip Aid:
- could be too constricting or uncomfortable, therefore steering from the original goals
- would need different sizes to be universal to everyone
- this could increase ease of use by eliminating having to fix the velcro and instead have something that slips directly on
