Prototype #2

In the current iteration of the Extra Hands design, we’ve taken into account many points of critique from our peers, a visiting engineer, and Priscilla.

The key point which we have worked through on this design is how easily accessible the contents of the bag are: will the bag open easily, and then stay open if desired? It did not occur to us that if we really want to achieve the desired goals with this bag (to serve as both a permanent and temporary storage method) we would need a way to keep the bag open. To do this, we attach the “female” end of a magnetic clasp onto the inside of the bag, allowing the bag to fold into itself. The fabric is stiff enough that the bag will stay open.

Further critique involved storage space. To respond, we’ve adjusted our design to include a pocket on the top flap (this provides access when the bag is secured to itself, propped open) and a number of subtle pockets dividing the interior of the bag.

Another concern was the comfort. The solution to this issue was not quite so easy. We could create a cushion for the strap, but this might significantly hinder the aesthetic qualities. We’ve discovered that some people may find it more comfortable when worn around the neck. img_3002
