Key Functional Prototype

For our key function, we decided to focus on the actual glove part of the glove. We decided this time to make a pattern first and experiment with different types of hand-sewing. Through this model we found out about seam allocation and the importance of the balance in how much seam allocation is present.

Next the class gave Krista and I feedback:

  • We need to find an ideal balance between safety and security without comprising either
  • We need to not lose sight of the importance of the connection the rower has to the oar
  • Think about sizing and the kinds of gloves we should model our grip aid on
  • Make sure that the seams don’t cause chafing
  • How to successfully connect the oar grip to the hand portion of the aid without having the stitches irritate the palm of the hand

  1. I think that you guys are doing a great job of making a very well tailored and fitted glove. With your thoughts about trying to hunt down the thinner fabric, I would explore the possibility of being able to get an equally secure glove with less velcro.
