Hello all! Pictured here is the model on Josh’s hand.
So Krista and I were able to make a connection with a rower at CRI, named Josh, who can benefit from the grip aids and has worked with the grip aids before. Meeting with Josh was extremely helpful since we were able to discover concerns for the glove we may have overlooked previously and receive the feedback we need for our future modifications.
Here is the past model he used and how much wear and tear it receieved after only about 3 weeks.
Modifications:
- needs quick release, immediate escape – with the velcro design we have now it’s harder for him to open the glove versus the tabs and buckle that were previously on the glove. He said with the tabs and buckle design he was able to quickly bite off the velcro
- 3 fingers rather than 5 (3 in the middle) – he said he liked the security the finger holes gave him but can be cumbersome to put on when his fingers curl
- fixed elastic over oar attachment – he liked how the elastic was in a fixed position on the “rubber oar attachment” but the elastic wasn’t tight enough
- make wrist portion of the glove a little lower – he liked the prototype that extended to the wrist
- more breathable fabric – he thought the neoprene was too thick and bulky
- less velcro (lot less velcro) – he thought the velcro was too bulky
- one quick release tab around small part of the wrist – he likes the idea of having a glove that closes around the wrist because it feels more secure
- remove the top half of the flap – to reduce the amount of bulkiness we want to try taking away the fabric used in the top part of the glove and flap closure
- hole for the thumb – he said he liked the thumb hole in the previous design
- fabric bunching – there was a lot of excess fabric that we want to get rid of
Fabric Modifications:
- palm – no stretch material
- wrist – little stretch/ no stretch material
- back of hand – whatever material
- flap – stretch material
