Currently: teachers set out mats and paper name cards to call the kiddos to group time
Problem 1 – The kids aren’t attracted to the mats, inefficient transitions
Problem 2 – The kids destroy the name cards
I would like to create a Name Block [working title, suggestions appreciated]
- -The kids will be attracted by lights and the interesting challenge that the device poses.
- -The child’s name and symbol can be written on an index card that will be inserted into the plastic block, where it will be preserved.
Feedback:
When all the buttons are pressed, the power source will turn on the Arduino. The Arduino is connected to the light sensor and LEDs. When all the buttons are pressed and the light sensor reads darkness (i.e. the box is set down on the ground), the LEDs on the top of the box will light up.
Block shape (made from raw materials):
- -A shape that children are familiar with
- -Easy to store
- -Round the corners
- -The pieces will be press-fit, but there will be a way to pop it off one and access the batteries, when they need to be changed.
My next step before finalizing and ordering materials is to look into smaller Arduino models and determine how much power the light sensor requires to operate. I will also be figuring out specific dimensions with the aid of the CSC, and deciding on the best type of button.
This is a super cool idea. I love how you are addressing such a unique problem with an equally unique approach. I’m really excited to see how it works out!
I love your idea! It so creative and makes great use of the skills we have already learned in class. Can’t wait to see the final product!
