Three Interesting Adaptive Technologies

#1) Inflatable Seat Cushions

A child with sensory processing issues or attention issues may benefit from the use of an inflatable seat cushion to provide stimulation without needing to get up. This is a surprisingly low-tech solution for a complicated range of problems. I admire that it repurposes an otherwise average object for good.

#2) Rowing Seat Re-invented with Quadriplegics in Mind

Resolute Adaptive created a new rowing seats that allow para rowers maximum support and propulsion in the water. Because of the lack of innovation in the area of adaptive rowing technology,  Resolute Adaptive decided to begin designing seats to broaden the opportunities of people with disabilities to participate in rowing.

#3) Talking Calculator

This might count more as assistive technology, but as someone who grew up with a learning disability, a calculator that speaks aloud to assist dyscalculic people seems neat. I appreciate the range of devices that have been invented in the last twenty years to help people with learning disabilities succeed in school. Without engineers, designers and other dedicated people, education equity might never be possible.
