Ergonomic Walker

By Maddy and Hanna

Priscilla’s ideas, recommendations and advice:

Have a seat

Be able to carry something

Look good (aesthetics)

Ergonomic (don’t need to hunch over to use)

Maybe have it collapse

Maybe be all terrain

Have it be able to pivot and make light turns

Examples of current walkers and strollers on the market:

This design with the three wheels and closed cover looks fun to use and easy to maneuver.

This device is getting closer to the three wheeled design and appears to have a more rounded handle.  However, this one does not look very fashionable.

Our ideas:

We had the idea to create an adjustable semi-circle handle bar in order to accommodate those who was to try and keep a straight back posture, and also will be able to support those who would like to support their body weight by holding onto the sides. We made the walker to have three all-terrain wheels in order for it to be able to move in more areas. As well, it has a rather large compartment in the front and a foldable chair in the back. In order to support the weight of the person, there will be an attached, foldable metal bar that will drop down with the chair in order to prevent the walker from tipping and flipping over.

Also here is just a funny picture about strollers:

  1. I really like the 3 wheel approach! It would definitely increase mobility and reduce the radius for turning. Would the metal bar on the drop down chair touch the ground?

  2. I really like the considerations about materials: I think aluminum would be the perfect balance between lightness/cheapness and sturdiness. Waterproof nylon is great because this is a walker for active people, and all conditions should be expected. I wonder how the balance of the foldable seat would work and what height the chair would be.

  3. I think you guys are on to something with your beginning design. I like the focus on manouverability and being able to accomodate both storage and a seat. Something to consider is the foldability and weight of this product. You initially mentioned that you want to keep the product foldable, but I see how this could be difficult with your current design. Also, you do not want it to be too heavy for the user to lift and remove from the trunk of a car.
