Rowing Questions

  • What exactly is meant by rowing hard pressure vs rowing light pressure?
  • Can we review rowing specific nomenclature (i.e. bowwards, erg, hull, etc.)?
  • What is the significance of the different classes of levers?
  • What does gearing mean in the context of rowing beyond the highly technical definition of: “ratio of the distance moved by the load to the distance moved by the effort?”

  1. Hard pressure vs. light pressure is very literally the amount of pressure a rower exerts when rowing. A lot vs. a little.

Levers are important to physics and are basically the same three components no matter which class of lever is being discussed: load, fulcrum, and effort, just in different orders.
