Gallery Walk

Goal: Design a highly portable and sturdy seat that can preferably store items as well.

Brainstorming on achieving our goal:

  • Compartments to hold water bottle, umbrella, wallet, keys, phone, etc.
  • Airplane seatbelt release straps for easy wear
  • Handles to push up when getting up from chair for universal design
  • Set height of chair(16-18 inches)

Specification critics:

  • Assemblability: too long (closer to 30 sec-1 min instead of five minutes)
  • Portability: Test the weight on Priscilla to see if 10 lbs too much and also keep in mind that backpack will also hold stuff and add to weight
  • Usability: Instead of measuring storage in liters (fluid measurement), use cubic inches or cubic centimeters
  • Rephrase specification to be body fit instead of fit
  • Change time while standing or sitting to less than 20 seconds
  • Aim to only need one adjustment

Beach Chair:

  • Test weight of current metal chair designs as they may be too bulky or heavy
  • Make cloth detachable and super light
  • Figure out how backpack connects to chair

Foam chair:

  • Consider if foam is best material as it may be too heavy
  • Figure out how legs would fold in ( fold in vs collapsible) and if it would be comfortable carrying on back

** New Idea: Incorporate a clasp so chair stays together!***

Backpack frame:

  • Find a way to incorporate armrests & straps

Based on all the feedback from the gallery walk we are looking at all our designs and thinking about models to figure out which parts of each design actually work. It was very helpful to see which design elements got lots of positive feedback (like the chair cape). Going forward we have a lot of testing we need to do to figure out how to incorporate all our best ideas into one chair.
