Oar Clips: Sketch Model

By Hanna, Lea, & Jamie

After getting a chance to handle actual oars, we’ve decided to modify our design based on what we’ve learned. When held together, it is not really possible to get the oars to rest against each other because the buttonsĀ (rings) around the oars get in the way. We now have to accommodate for this gap in our oar clip design.

Our Solutions:

Model A (Oar Hugger): One design idea is to keep the rigid c-shaped cups but attach them by elastic bands so that they can fit over any sized/shaped pair of oars. When pulling the cups away from each other, the elastic would stretch and the whole mechanism can be slid onto the oars and released.

Model B (Oar Strap 5000): Another design implements a rigid piece between the oars with elastic straps to keep it in place. The piece in between the oars would function to provide stability even with a gap between the oars.

Our plan to construct the sketch models:

Oar Hugger:

  • PVC pipe cut in half to make cups
  • elastic attached by glue

Oar Strap:

  • 3d print theĀ piece between the oars
  • Durable fabric and elastic for straps
  • Cord lock for adjustability
