Functional Prototype #1

From this prototype Krista and I tried extending the wrist, using a fingerless model, a thicker elastic, and a velcro design based off a bike glove

From this we learned that the material we have is too thick to use on the wrist, so we’ll be eliminating the wrist extension in the design. As well, the sizing of the fingers was a bit to restrictive, so we’ll be trying the original sketch model design of just having holes for the fingers to go through. For the elastic, we’ll try sewing it into the rubber oar grip part to avoid it moving around when it is being placed on the oar. The velcro design was fairly successful so we’ll keep on trying that.

  1. The glove is coming along well. It is good that you were able to slip it onto an oar. Also the velcro modeled after the bike glove looks much easier to rip of quickly. I think flexibility for the user is important and maybe if you want to keep fabric on the wrist you could try a thinner type.

  2. I agree with Maddy about the bike glove velcro. Its smart and it looks easy and pleasing.I wonder if there is maybe like a pull tie you can use for the wrist instead of a one size fits all fabric

  3. I really like the velcro involved in this design, and the glove on the model hand looks really well fitted. I’m curious as to what type of fabric you are considering for the next prototype.
