9/17 Printing update

Thank you for your patience, and please do keep reporting problems if you encounter them! Others may not be reporting issues — we can only fix problems if we know about them.

Resolved

  • Printing speed for most jobs should be back to normal on both Macs and PCs
  • Jobs should not “disappear”
  • Jobs should be printing in B&W and color properly and should be added to your quota properly
  • If you see an “error” on the PCs when you print, it should not affect your ability to print

Unresolved issues that we are troubleshooting (please report these to the Help Desk)

  • Instead of printing a job, an I/O error is printed instead
  • A printer may be “offline” on a student’s personal computer

Known issues

  • Big jobs are slow and can sometimes be denied
  • Blank and missing pages won’t occur if you use Preview or Acrobat Reader

Quotas

Quota increases are FREE. There is no change in our quota increase policy from last year. You can still request free increases to your quota by filling out our google form. The information on this form helps us understand student printing needs better. Your answers do not affect your increase.

Support

  • Library Service Desks – If you are in a library, grab someone at the nearest desk!
  • Computing Help Desk – Call, drop by or email helpdesk@wellesley.edu
  • papercut-support – Email this Google group with questions/concerns/problems

Instructions can be found online, at the printers, at the library desks and in printing labs (small handouts). You can also watch two student how-to videos (scroll down the page). We are also offering open printing tutorials.

Visit this page for more detail, including why we added new printers/software and what exactly happened at the beginning of the semester when we had significant delays in printing.
